I love my AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
I have been into photography since I was a very young man. This lens came along when I purchased my 3rd Nikon digital camera. I found that taking along a three or four lenses became a problem when I changed lenses on my camera. I tend to hike a lot and changing out lens became a big dust/dirt problem in the environment I tend to hike in during the day. This lens allowed me to reduce the number of camera bodies and lenses I carry in my backpack. This lens allows me to shoot 90 percent of the images I want with high quality results without interchanging lenses. If I were a boy again, I would not mind carrying the additional 25 lbs of photo equipment, today I do.
Any photographer using this lens would be very happy with the results at the end of the day. Except for some very special shooting situations, this lens does an excellent job.
Now for my plug to Nikon, will you please produce an equal or better lens like this for the FX digital cameras in order that I can use it on my D700 replacement (soon to come out I hope)???
If you can, I thank you from the bottom of my picture taking heart!

Greatest Lens
I have the NIKKOR AF-S 18-200mm 1:35-5.6 G ED zoom lenses mounted on a Nikon D5000 Camera. For me this combination cannot be beat. I can take pictures and Videos in the wilds of Alaska capturing the wild life and the spectacular scenery, to portraits at a family get together. I can use it to photo our home and belongings for our inventory or to make copies of old photos or documents. This combination is such a pleasure to us. I never miss a shot because I was changing lenses or because I didn’t bring the correct lens.

My all around lens.
This lens is the one that is always on my D200. Very versatile range (18-200) and very good image quality.

perfect for journalist
As a writer and not a photographer, this lens saves my butt. I can set it at auto and shoot everything and it comes out great. I can set it for specific modes and it does even better. A friend borowed it for a family portait and then I saw how good it really is. Nikon is my choice for cameras, lens, eyeware and rifle scope. None has ever let me down.

great versitile lens system.
Love the lens. I had a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm and loved them but now only have to have one lens with me. It is light weight and operates as advertized. Most all my photographic situations are covered by this one lens.

Purchase the 18-200mm VRII lens. It is denoted with a Gold VR symbol. The Red VR symbol is the older generation lens and you can purchase them anywhere camera equipment is sold. Just make sure they are an authorized Nikon dealer.Jun 1, 2011 by

Answer:
Teleconverters take away auto-focus capabilities most of the time and interfere with the way the lens is engineered to operate. If you need a longer distance, grab a lens with a longer focal distance for slightly more in price. You will be glad you did instead of getting a teleconverter, but if you are set on it, Nikon provides one in the Lens section.Jun 1, 2011 by

you might need special clockmaker's screwdrivers for that. they're usually cheap.
My N 18-200mm is locked in Single Point - AF, despite the camera body (d300) being set to dynamic AF. I've tried resetting the body, de/reattaching the lens, manually resetting the lens settings...anybody have any thoughts?
